Chapter One General Principles

    Article I In order to promote healthy development of education work on international students, encourage and attract more excellent international students to learn language at our University and encourage excellent international students studying language who study hard and obey the disciplines, we stipulate this Awards Process referring to the Chinese Government Scholarship, relevant award standards and awards process of other universities, together with the actual reality of the University.

    Article II This Awards Process is implemented by the School of International Education.

Chapter Two Types and Award Standards of the Scholarship

    Article III Scholarship for International Students Studying Language at Beifang University of Nationalities is divided into five categories, namely, Living Scholarship, Merit Scholarship, Excellence Scholarship, HSK Scholarship and Winning Prize for Art and Sport Contests.

    (i) Living Scholarship: students who have gone through the admission procedures, paid up the tuition and accommodation fees, etc. may fill out the application form to gain the 3,000-yuan one-off living scholarship granted by the University.

    (ii) Merit Scholarship: the scholarship is awarded in accordance with the academic records and comprehensive evaluation scores of international students in one academic year, which includes first-class, second-class and third-class scholarship, among which:

    First-class scholarship: takes up 8% of the total number of students with 8,000 yuan per student per year.

    Second-class scholarship: takes up 12% of the total number of students with 5,000 yuan per student per year.

    Third-class scholarship: takes up 15% of the total number of students with 3,000 yuan per student per year.

    (iii) Excellence Scholarship: mainly awards sophomores and above or international students learning language with educational background equaling to bachelor degree or above with 2,000 yuan, which will be granted on a one-time basis after the student has paid up the tuition and accommodation fees, etc.

    (iv) HSK Scholarship: mainly awards international students learning language who have passed the HSK examination at school: 600 yuan for those who have passed HSK (Level IV); 800 yuan for those who have passed HSK (Level V); and 1,000 yuan for those who have passed HSK (Level VI);

     (v) Winning Prize for Art and Sport Contests: mainly awards international students who have participated in all kinds of contests at school level or above and have won Excellence Award and above. The award standards refer to the Scholarship     Awards Process for Undergraduates of Beifang University of Nationalities and shall be proposed by the School of International Education and approved by school leaders in charge before application.

Chapter Three Objects of the Scholarship

    Article IV The objects of the Scholarship for International Students Studying Language at Beifang University of Nationalities are: all self-funded international students learning language at the University for a long term (at least 12 months) can apply for the Living Scholarship, and apply for evaluation of the Merit Scholarship, HSK Scholarship and Winning Prize for Art and Sport Contests.

Chapter Four Application for Scholarship

    Article V The Scholarship for International Students Learning Language at Beifang University for Nationalities adheres to the principles of openness, fairness, justice and choosing the best.

    Article VI Basic requirements for applying for the scholarship:

    (i) The applicants shall be international students learning Chinese at the University for one year or more (including one year). While others including short-term students, exchange students, etc. cannot apply.

    (ii) The applicants shall be well-behaved, abide by the Chinese Law and regulations & disciplines of the University, who haven't violated China's laws and haven't received disciplinary punishment by the University during the year of evaluation.

    (iii) The applicants shall be healthy and have actively participated in teaching practice and collective extracurricular activities, and have gone along well with other international students and Chinese students.

    Article VII Students who apply for Living Scholarship shall hand in relevant credentials demonstrating that they have paid up the tuition and accommodation fees, etc.

    Article VIII Students who apply for Excellence Scholarship shall provide original of relevant certification documents for review and fill out an Individual Application Form.

    Article IX Students who apply for HSK Scholarship shall hand in the HSK grade notice or other certification documents and fill out an Individual Application Form.

    Article X Students who apply for the Winning Prize for Art and Sport Contests shall provide original of relevant certificates of award for review and fill out an Individual Application Form.

    Article XI For Merit Scholarship, at the end of every academic year, the School of International Education will publish the ranking of academic records and comprehensive evaluation scores of students as well as the name list of those who are qualified to apply the scholarship. Then the qualified students may apply by themselves and fill out the application form.

    Article XII Students cannot apply for Merit Scholarship in the following circumstances:

    (i) Students who have received the notice of criticism by the School for twice or more, although they haven't received the disciplinary punishment by the University.

    (ii) Students who have violated social morality and the Code of Ethics of College Students and have caused serious adverse effect in the society or the University.

    (iii) Students who have failed to finish a course (including the examination, test and practical class).

Chapter Five Scholarship Review

    Article XIII At the beginning of each new semester, students who are eligible for the Living Scholarship and Excellence Scholarship can apply for corresponding scholarship, which will be approved by the University after review and publicity by the Office of International Students and the scholarship leading group of the School.

    Article XIV Students can apply for Merit Scholarship at the end of every academic year. The School of International Education will determine the candidates according to the selection requirements, which will be approved by the University after review and publicity by the scholarship leading group of the School.

    Article XV For HSK Scholarship and the Winning Prize for Art and Sport Contests, etc., the School of International Education will, at the end of each academic year, determine the name list of awards according the selection requirements, which will be approved by the University after review and publicity by the scholarship leading group of the School.

Chapter Six Supplementary Provisions

    Article XVI This Awards Process shall be implemented since the date of its publicity.

    Article XVII The School of International Education is responsible for explanation and revision of this Awards Process at a proper time.
