President Yang Min Attended the Fourth China-Arab States University Presidents Forum

  The Fourth China-Arab States University Presidents Forum was held at Zarqa University in Amman, the capital of Jordan from September 26 to 28. It was cosponsored by People's Governme nt of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Association of Arab Universities. At the invitation of the sponsors, Association of Arab Universities and Zarqa University, President Yang Min attended the Forum in Jordan and delivered a keynote speech entitled “Committed to Two Services for Building the Training Base for China-Arab Talents”.

  Yang Min mentioned in his speech that by relying on the platform of "China-Arab States University Presidents Forum" which has been held three sessions in our university and taking advantage of the unique regional advantage of our university, we worked actively with universities of Arab countries. As a result, we have reaped fruitful achievements in cooperation and exchanges with them.

  Yang Min maintained that in recent years, with the principle of "pragmatic, effective and win-win cooperation", we have signed 20 cooperation agreements with colleges and universities of Arab countries. We have conducted in-depth cooperation in terms of students exchange, scientific & technological cooperation and academic exchange with the following universities, such as University of Khartoum in Sudan, the University of Carthage (UCAR) in Tunisia, Benha University in Egypt, Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Qatar and so on. This has laid a solid foundation for serving China’s "Belt and Road" initiative and Westward Opening-up strategy, expanding the cooperation between our University and colleges and universities of Arab countries, building a training base for China-Arab talents and serving the local economic development.

  Yang Min emphasized that our University was developing the cultivation mode of "Arabic+" in a positive way. We have set up innovation class for some majors, such as finance, international trade, etc.; we have strived to explore in terms of cultivation of China-Arab talents, and initiated diversified and inter-disciplinary talent cultivation mode. We hoped that in the next five years, we would conduct more extensive and effective cooperation and exchange between our University and colleges and universities of Arab countries, so as to strive to build our University into a compound talent cultivation base featuring "Arabic+Laws", "Arabic+Economy & Trade" as well as "Arabic+Engineering Technology".

  President Yang Min's speech received extensive response from university presidents from China and Arab countries who participated in the Forum. They believed that China and Arab countries should promote cooperation in higher education and give full play to the fundamental role of international & professional talents in promoting China-Arab cooperation under the framework of the "Belt and Road".

  During the Forum, President Yang Min communicated with presidents from more than ten universities of Arab countries as well as some Chinese universities. They exchanged views on deepening the cooperation between universities of China and Arab countries. They also signed intercollegiate cooperation agreements with 11 universities including Zarqa University in Jordan, Al al-Bayt University , Alexandria University in Egypt, Université Libanaise, etc.

  As the only bilateral cooperation platform for higher education, China-Arab States University Presidents Forum has been held for four consecutive years. It is the first time that the Forum was held in Arab countries this year. The Forum enhanced mutual understanding between universities of China and Arab countries, jointly responded and discussed common issues & countermeasures faced by the reform and development of higher education. It effectively advanced the progress and development of bilateral exchange and cooperation in higher education.

  The Forum, with the theme of "Consolidating China-Arab Traditional Friendship, Deepening Mutually Beneficial Cooperation", witnessed a total of nearly 100 university presidents and 260 scholars from China, Arab countries and other regions, including Renmin University of China, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Cairo University, University of Jordan, etc. At the Forum, three topics were discussed among university presidents and scholars focusing on: experience exchange of cooperative achievements of China-Arab universities, new missions of people-to-people exchanges and cooperation of China-Arab universities, talents cultivation and cooperation in China-Arab higher vocational education. They conducted in-depth dialogues and exchanges on think-tank construction of China-Arab universities, students exchange, scaling the overseas students, higher vocational education, etc.

  Adnan Badran, Jordan's former Prime Minister, Pan Weifang, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan,  Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research of Jordan, and Sultan T. Abu-Orabi Aladwan, Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, respectively delivered speeches at the Forum.
